Martin Knapp
Martin is Professor of Health and Social Care Policy in the Department of Health Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and also Professorial Research Fellow in the Care Policy and Evaluation Centre at LSE.
He is Director of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Programme for Social Care, and was formerly Director of the NIHR School for Social Care Research (2009-24).
Martin has worked for many years as a researcher in the fields of social care, mental health, dementia, learning disability and neurodiversity. Much of his work uses economic arguments and evidence to inform policy discussion and influence practice development.
His work has had numerous impacts on policy and practice in England and internationally.

Magdalena Walbaum
Magdalena is a Research Officer in Social Care at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), based in the Care Policy and Evaluation Centre in the Department of Health Policy.
Magdalena is participating across different projects in the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Healthy Ageing and participated in the Older People and Frailty Policy Research Unit project on the preferences for new models of social care for older people. She has worked as a researcher in health and care economics and has worked for the Ministry of Health of Chile. Her research interests are centred around economic evaluations for interventions in social care, mental health, dementia and other non-communicable diseases to inform policy and influence practice.

Raphael Wittenberg
Raphael is an Associate Professorial Research Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he is deputy director of the Care Policy and Evaluation Centre, in the Department of Health Policy.
He has an honorary role at the Centre for Health Service Economics and Organisation in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. He was previously a senior economist at the Department of Health and Social Care.
Raphael leads the Policy Research Unit in Healthy Ageing project on longer working lives and participated in the Older People and Frailty Policy Research Unit project on the preferences for new models of social care for older people. He co-leads a programme of research on financing long-term care, which aims to make projections of demand for long-term care for older people and associated expenditure to 2042. He also conducts research on dementia care, care for people with learning disability, and unpaid care.
In addition to the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Healthy Ageing, he is a member of the Adult Social Care Policy Research Unit and the Economics of Social and Health Care Policy Research Unit.
